What Is Hospice

Comfort Care

Hospice provides a caring environment for the physical and emotional needs of the terminally ill and their families.

Most people will experience a terminal illness prior to death which may include symptoms such as nausea, anorexia, fatigue, pain, shortness of breath, confusion and anxiety.   These symptoms are frightening for patients and their caregivers. Our hospice physicians and nurses are experts at managing these symptoms so that patients can enjoy their lives.

Comfort care is the care we give patients who have a terminal diagnosis. With the help of medications, diet changes, or alternative therapies such as massage, aromatherapy, pet and art therapies and healing touch, our staff knows that there is much that can be done to create comfort.

After over 30 years of experience, the Hospice of Saint John staff knows that patients prefer to die comfortably, in a place of their choosing, surrounded by the people or things that bring life meaning.

Our hospice team meets our patients wherever they are on life’s journey by developing a personalized Plan of Care, coordinated  with patients, their families, and their physicians.
