The Order of Saint John

As the second oldest free standing hospice in the United States, the Hospice of Saint John has built a reputation of unparalled excellence.  We are experts in hospice care simply because we have been doing it longer.

The Sovereign Order of Saint John of Jerusalem was founded in 1048 to care for the ill and wounded traveling to Jerusalem and the Holy Land.

Ever since 1048, Order members, (known as Knights and Dames of Malta) have taken formal vows of generosity, charity, and hospitality.

The mission of the Hospice of Saint John continues to be directed by the Order, and reflects these commitments in all aspects of patient care.

Since founded in 1977, by the late Father Paul von Lobkowitz, a prominent member of the Order of Saint John, the Hospice has provided care to over 25,000 terminally ill patients and their families.

In our long-standing tradition, the Hospice of Saint John provides care to all patients and does not discriminate against any group, including protected classes or ethnicity, religious beliefs, ability to pay, and others.
