What is your nurse to patient ratio?
A: For Home Care patients, we provide at least 2 nurse visits per week per patient. The Hospice of Saint John has the best nurse to patient ratio in Colorado.

Are the doctor's services included in the cost of hospice?
A: The Hospice of Saint John's Medical Directors are included in the cost of your care. However, if you choose to include your primary care physician, those fees will be billed to your insurance seperately. Please feel free to ask your Admissions Representative for information.

Can loved ones stay overnight at your In-patient facility?
A: Yes. Arrangements are made through the patient's care team for overnight accommodations. Family rooms are available for overnight stays. When possible, a small donation for this service is greatly appreciated.

What should I bring with me upon admission?
A: When you are admitted to the Hospice of Saint John we become your home. You may bring some personal items including clothing, toiletries and other personal items that are important to you.

What are some non-medicinal methods for symptom managment?
A: Integrative Therapies are available for both home and in-patient care. These therapies include Aroma, Pet (animal assisted), massage, healing touch and Reiki, music, sound and harp. Integrative Therapies are research-proven to assist with pain management and stress relief. Integrative Therapies are known to bridge the gap between when a medication is given and when the patient experiences relief.

Are medications stopped upon admission?
A: Your care team will evaluate all of your medication and diatery needs and develop a tailored-to-you care plan. Your care plan will continue to be revised during your stay with us.

How do I pay for hospice care?
A: We accept most private insurances, Medicare and Medicaid. An Admissions Representative will personally assist you and explain your payment options. For those who are underinsured or have no insurance, please feel free to contact an Admissions Representative.

Can I keep my own doctor?
A: Yes. We encourage patients to maintain relationships with their physicians throughout their care. Our interdisciplinary care team will keep your physician informed and involved. However, if you do not have a primary care physician our team in addition to our Medical Directors will provide all of your care.

When are scheduled visiting hours?
A: We do not schedule special visiting hours at our In-patient facility. You may visit your loved one 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, giving patients, families and friends continued access to one another.

Are private rooms available?
A: Yes. In our In-patient facility you may select a private or a semi-private room (based on availability).

How do you manage pain and other symptoms?
A: We are expert in pain management (palliative care) and comfort care. Our Executive Medical Director is Board Certified in palliative care, in addition to his other certifications. Our interdisciplinary team features Integrative Therapies and Pastoral care that, when used in conjunction with pharmaceutical approaches, manage symptoms and maximize comfort. Our goal is to assist our patients in remaining alert and comfortable.

What does a interdisciplinary hospice care team consist of?
A: Our team is highly specialized and experienced in hospice care. This team interfaces and communicates regularly to provide immediate changes to patients' care plans, implementing optimal response. Each interdisciplinary hospice team consists of a physician, registered nurse, certified nursing assistant, social worker, chaplain, medical/medicaid specialist, bereavement counselor, integrative therapist and a registered dietitian.
